Bone Broth Dog Biscuits

These bone broth dog biscuits are not just good for your pet's health; they're also loaded with nutrients, making them an excellent treat for your furry companion.

Not only are the biscuits incredibly simple to prepare, they are easy to digest and dogs absolutely love them. But if you happen to have a dog with a sensitive stomach, you can use rice flour instead of whole wheat.

Bone broth is a super star when it comes to ingredients for dog biscuits because it offers numerous nutritional advantages. One major benefit is collagen, which helps maintain healthy joints, particularly important for older dogs.

The addition of peanut butter not only adds a great flavor, but is also a great protein source along with fiber as well as vitamins and minerals.

Now, before we get to the recipe, I'm going to give you a run down on some of the compelling benefits I discovered about bone broth. In fact, I was so impressed, I got some right away to give to my dog who was a little under the weather at the time.

By the way, if you make this recipe, be sure to use broth that is formulated for dogs, as is the one in the recipe. Why? Because broth intended for the likes of you or me would likely contain garlic and onions which are toxic to dogs. It will generally also contain spices, preservatives and too much salt.

The brand we recommend in the recipe is a very suitable source from one of my trusted brands.

Benefits of Bone Broth for Dogs

Nutritional Boost

Bone broth is packed with essential vitamins and minerals, including calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. These nutrients contribute to overall health, making these treats delicious and beneficial.

Joint Health

The gelatin found in bone broth contains collagen, which supports joint health. This is especially important for older dogs or certain breeds that are more prone to joint problems, helping them maintain their mobility.

Your dog's skin and coat may also get a healthy boost from the collagen.

Hydration

Being a liquid, bone broth helps keep dogs hydrated. Incorporating it into treats can be particularly advantageous for the nutrition it provides. For dogs that might not drink enough water, you might try putting a splash to their water bowl for an enticing meaty aroma.

Digestive Health

The amino acids, minerals, collagen, protein, and gelatin present in bone broth can support digestion and promote a healthy gut. This is especially useful for dogs with sensitive stomachs or existing digestive issues.

Flavor Enhancement

Dogs have a natural attraction to rich, meaty flavors. Bone broth elevates the taste of treats, making them more appealing and enjoyable for pets.

Homemade Quality

Incorporating bone broth into homemade treats enables pet owners to control the ingredients, ensuring the treats are free from additives and preservatives. This promotes healthier eating habits for their pets.

Customizable Recipes

Bone broth can easily be integrated into various treat recipes, giving you the pet parent, the creative freedom to mix flavors and textures.

Plus, this will allow you to make treats that contain ingredients your dog likes while also keeping in mind any dietary needs your vet may have set out.

Support for Recovery

For dogs healing from surgery or illness, bone broth serves as a gentle and nourishing source of hydration and nutrients, facilitating their recovery process. It's sorta like chicken soup for dogs!

Allergy-Friendly Options

For dogs with food sensitivities or allergies, homemade treats made with bone broth can be crafted using limited, safe ingredients, allowing them to enjoy a tasty treat without adverse reactions.

Bonding Experience

Creating homemade cone broth dog biscuits can be a fun and fulfilling activity for pet parents, strengthening the bond between them and their dogs.

Incorporating bone broth into dog treats not only boosts flavor but also offers a range of health benefits, making it a favored ingredient to include in healthy recipes.

So, let’s get started and whip up some of these delicious bone broth dog biscuits your dog is absolutely going to love.

Bone Broth Dog Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients:

Directions:

  •  Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  •  Prepare a parchment-lined baking sheet .
  •  In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and rolled oats.
  •  In another bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, bone  broth, egg, and honey until smooth.
  • Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a bit more flour.
  • Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters or a knife to cut out shapes.
  • Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and leave on pan for 5 minutes, then transfer treats to a rack to cool completely before serving.

If you prefer crunchier dog biscuits, leave them in the "turned-off" oven overnight.

    Storage:

Store the treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, or freeze them for much longer storage.

Recipe Notes

  • Xylitol and Dogs:  Xylitol is an artificial sweetener commonly found in hard candies, chewing gum, and various foods aimed at diabetic individuals, as well as in some sugar-free items and dental care products.
  • It's important to note that xylitol can also be present in certain brands of peanut butter (and almond butter).
  • However, you should NEVER feed your dog anything that contains xylitol. Even a small quantity can be fatal.
  • Always check the labels of nut butters you intend to use in your homemade dog treats to ensure you're not putting your furry friend in danger. ** Some manufacturers may list xylitol as 'Birch Sugar' in their ingredient lists, so stay wary and keep an eye out for your pet's sake.
  • While the recipe calls for beef bone broth, feel free to substitute with chicken bone broth or turkey. Organic is best.
  • Only use bone broth formulated for dogs.
  • This recipe can be for very small "training" size treats, or can also be rolled out and cut into larger treats in any fun shape you like.
  • If you do make larger treats, adjust your baking time. You won't over-bake if you just watch them until the treats become golden brown and feel firmer to the touch.  If you want them crisper, just leave in the turned off oven until they are thoroughly cool.
  • The amount of treats will vary according to the size you select.  You can also freeze the dough to bake up later.
  • Bone broth dog treats are intended for the occasional treat or used sparingly for training.
