To "Green Up" Your Dog!

Natural pet products are making a buzz.

Eco friendly, organic, natural, earth friendly, biodegradable, chemical free, sustainable, recyclable, environmentally safe, human grade, locally grown, made in the USA etc., etc. I don't know about you, but these are buzz words that I've been hearing more and more in news items about the environment.

Nowadays a lot of these same terms are being used to describe eco-friendly pet products. And that's good news for a spoiled dog - he's getting more attention!

Think about it, with all this awareness about the impact of our carbon footprint, it stands to reason that sooner or later we'd get around to considering the carbon pawprints of our dogs.

Sometimes we're not very analytical about our buying choices - that's OK we're human. It's not out of indifference, it's just that we're not always aware of our options. But deep down I think we'd all like to minimize our impact on this beautiful planet, in whatever ways we can.

Until recently, there weren't a lot of natural pet products to consider for our dog, but thanks to increasing awareness, this picture has changed. Now, with a little help from us, our spoiled doggies can make their contribution to a cleaner world. Let me be a bit more specific.

• Toys made with recycled materials that can again be recycled when your dog has had his way with them.

And if you're a proud American, you'll be glad to know that the majority of these products are made right here in the USA. This is important, because some countries do not adhere to the same manufacturing standards that are followed here.

We can't deny that the existence of dogs, just like humans, does have an impact on the planet. By contrast, what they contribute to our lives comes very close to striking a fair balance. It turns out that if we don't try to fool Mother Nature, we can help out our doggies with organic and natural pet products to help minimize their impact.
