Cocker Spaniels Are The Sweetest!

From the time I was a little girl, I always loved Cocker Spaniels. I'm not sure why, but they've always appealed to me.

When I was a little girl, my mom bought me a stuffed dog that looked like a Cocker Spaniel, with those big floppy ears and brown, soulful eyes. I took that stuffed dog everywhere and I swear he's in every photographer's portrait until I was about five years old!

However, when it was time to get a dog, the first dog we had was a "mutt," but nonetheless, lovable. Just a mixed breed that probably was part Beagle, part something else. He was a cute puppy but never really was trained properly. I still longed for a Cocker Spaniel.

Last year, I had the fortunate opportunity to take care of a neighbor's beautiful Cocker Spaniel for several months while she was undergoing some medical treatment.

Buffy was a beautiful "blond" and had an amazingly gentle temperament. Always gentle and docile, she never barked ... not once ... while under my care. Obedient and sweet, she was too good to be true. I couldn't believe how well behaved this perfect pup turned out. (Kudos to her owner, though, who has the personality and patience to train dogs so well.)

She loved having her belly rubbed, and as soon as someone approached her, she'd get on the floor and roll on her back, paws in the air, waiting for that all important belly rub. Her eyes would close and she'd quiver with delight. But as soon as someone stopped, she'd bounce up looking for more.

Sitting in front of the TV with Buffy was one of her favorite activities. She wasn't picky about what was on the tube. She just liked to snuggle and cuddle. Taking care of her was no trouble at all. When my neighbor regained her health, of course she wanted Buffy back, but I was very sad to see her go!

I'm not in the position to have a pet right now, but I still plan to get a Cocker Spaniel to share my home. I just don't know if I'll ever be able to find one that measures up to Buffy!
