Another dog food recall caught our attention this week. This one is from Diamond Pet Foods and concerns their product: Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal And Rice. The reason for the recall is due to the suspicion that it may be contaminated with Salmonella. It is noted that individuals handling dry pet food can become infected with salmonella. Pets with salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. Bags recalled: 1. 6-pound bag, with production code DLR0101D3XALW best used before 04 Jan 2013
2. 20-pound bag, with production code DLR0101C31XAG best used before 03 Jan 2013
3. 40-pound bag, with production code DLR0101C31XMF best used before 03 Jan 2013
4. 40-pound bag, with production code DLR0101C31XAG best used before 03 Jan 2013
5. 40-pound bag, with production code DLR0101D32XMS best used before 04 Jan 2013
While the bags in question were distributed to customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia; it is possible that these customers may have further distributed the product to other states, through pet food channels.
